Sen. Reid was on a Cot during All Night Senate Session

The Big Sleeper Senator Harry Reid(AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais)

It was billed as an all night Senate debate on withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq. Democrats called this very symbolic session to identify with the troops who often stay up all night defending this country.

"How many sleepless nights have our soldiers and their families had?" --Sen. Dick Durbin,D-Ill

Senator Harry Reid was the architect of this thinly veiled stunt meant to peel away and entice weak Republican Senators into supporting Liberal demands to cut and run from Iraq.

After Senator Reid’s careful staged midnight address which was meant to show the world that he as Senate majority leader would be up all night in this must important gesture of self-sacrifice against the war.

After all it was the least that a Senator could do to simultaneously support the troops and at the same time protest against the war, but mysteriously the Senator suddenly went AWOL. Was he kidnapped by an American al Qaeda sleeper cell?

In the greatest disappearing act since Captain Joseph Hazelwood, left the wheelhouse of the Exxon Valdez Senator Reid just disappeared.

You remember Captain Hazelwood? Who sometime after 11 pm, departed the wheel house of the Valdez and was in his stateroom at the time of the accidental oil spill, which was one of the largest manmade environmental disasters ever to occur at sea. Hazelwood left Third Mate Gregory Cousins in charge of the wheel house and Able Seaman Robert Kagan at the helm the Valdez hit Prince William Sound's Bligh Reef and spilled an estimated 11 million gallons of crude oil.

So where was Senator Reid? Well according to Las Vegas Sun writer Lisa Mascaro sometime after midnight after the Senators midnight address he retired to his Senate office to a waiting secret cot then he stripped out of his trousers, then his shirt and tie, before settling into his cot for a snooze. On the Senate floor, others carried the all-night debate on the war in Iraq.

Apparently all the other cots were props but one was not. Senator Reid’s cot which was sequestered in the Senator’s private privileged office held the majority leader gently as he lay there dreaming. Perhaps dreaming of the brave fighting soldiers in Iraq?

Bush and his fellow Republicans to pull troops from Iraq, have scheduled an around-the-clock war debate starting on Tuesday which is expected to last overnight. REUTERS/Jason Reed (UNITED STATES)

In one of the biggest staged Democrat political stunts to date Senator Harry Reid, like the disciples Peter, James and John who disappointed their Lord because they rather sleep than watch with Him for one hour, was sleep. And because of it Reid’s hypocrisy stinks up the whole Senate!

Senate Reid: Sleep would be divine

No one forced Senator Reid to Stage this all night debate so if he wasn’t ready to follow though with his own program he shouldn’t have called it! But to pretend that he was up all night when he wasn’t is simply outrageously disgraceful!

Senator Reid did not do an all nighter, Senator Reid got his sleep. This is but another example of Liberals attempting to have it both ways.

Democrat Senators voted to give the President authority for this war and they have repeatedly voted to fund it and now that Code pink and Cindy Sheehan have gained some traction with the racial anti-protect America left Democrats all of a sudden Senate Democrats are ready for a precipitous withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq for no other reason than votes in 2008!

Anything for votes hey Dems? …Just as long as it doesn’t interfere with your beauty sleep huh Senate Reid?

Migrating Clay Pigeons and Lame Ducks

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

What does Immigration, Clay Pigeons and Lame Ducks have in common? Well we have a Lame Duck President and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid attempting to Clay Pigeon an Immigration Bill through the Senate. What you say?

It is said the U.S. Senate is the greatest deliberative body in the world. So why is the most important bill in at least the last 20 years, a bill that will determine the flow of immigration in this country for decades, why is that bill being “Clay Pigeoned” through the Senate instead of being debated?

What is Clay Pigeoning you ask? Clay Pigeoning is a very complicated Senate maneuver, an attempt to ram a bill through the Senate in a very controlled protected way which will limit debated on the Bill. The bill S.B. 1348 the 790 paged Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act is the legislation that the Senate is not debating, the Senate is not calling in expert witnesses for pro or con arguments on this bill as to the impact that this legislation would have on the people of the United States of America instead the most powerful man in Government Senator Harry Reid, D-Nev is doing what he does best, he’s controlling the discussion around this issue.

The Senate tactic, “Clay Pigeon” gets its name from the target used in skeet shooting, which explodes into bits as it is hit. In the Senate, an amendment is the target, and any one senator can demand that it be divided into separate fragments to be voted on piecemeal.

Ironically, the move is usually used by mavericks - not leaders - to slow down legislation, not in the opposite manner that Senator Reid is using it.
Usually this procedure used to stop a bill but the master tactician that Harry Reid is, he has conceived of a plan to use this maneuver to the favor of proponents of this bill. Because usually, "It's a brilliant way to gum up the works," said Robert B. Dove, a Senate rules expert who was the chamber's referee for 36 years.

The maneuver appears to be a relatively modern innovation; Dove said he first became aware of it in the early 1970s, when then-Sen. Jim Allen, D-Ala., a master of parliamentary procedures, used it against a bill pushed by the then- majority leader, Sen. Mike Mansfield, D-Mont. "I remember people being dazzled when he did this," Dove said.

Reid's plan has its risks, chief among them further inflaming the vocal conservative opponents who have vowed to do whatever they can to kill the immigration measure.

Reid said he would revive the bill to legalize as many as 12 million unlawful immigrants late this week. To do so, though, he needs backing from 60 senators, and a way to guarantee votes on a tentative list of 22 Republican and Democratic amendments whose consideration is seen as vital to satisfying key waverers.

The so-called clay pigeon is how he's expected to do it, under a strategy that was still taking shape Monday.-- JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS, Washington, AP

Edwin Meese, III
Ronald Reagan Distinguished Fellow in Public Policy and Chairman of the Center for Legal and Judicial Studies explains the complicated immigration bill.

Senator Harry Reid is no stranger to complicating thing in the Senate and coming out on top. As the Minority leader Senator Reid gave Senate Majority leader Bill Frist fits.

Accusing Republicans of ignoring questions about pre-war intelligence, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid forced the Republican-controlled Senate into an unusual closed session in 2005, igniting anger from GOP leaders.

Before making the rare motion, which was seconded by his assistant minority leader, Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., Reid said his colleagues across the aisle "have repeatedly chosen to protect the Republican administration rather than get to the bottom of what happened and why."

Michael Franc, Vice President, Government Relations explains how present procedure to rush S.B. 1348 is not normal procedure for complicated Senate legislation.

An exasperated and outdone Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist was reduced to shouting out in the halls of the Senate, the Senate "has been hijacked by the Democratic leadership."

"They have no convictions, they have no principles, they have no ideas," he said.
Frist said the Democratic Party leadership did not warn him in advance of the move, which Republicans called a "political stunt."

"It means from now on, for the next year and half, I can't trust Senator Reid," the Tennessee lawmaker said. –Worldnetdaily, November 1 2005

Duh, Senator Frist that’s why Republicans lost control of the senate in 2006, Democrats were better politicians than Republicans. Much better! Democrats were controlling the Senate way before 2007 before they had official control of the body because of incompetent Republican leadership. The same leadership with Trent Lott as second in authority that will lose in 2008.

And what about the first month of official control of the Senate, Reid used, a Senate tactic called "filled the tree" a tactic meant to block any amendments to the continuing resolution and twice attempted to block votes on alternatives to his Iraq resolution to set deadlines and timetables for withdrawal. So much for real debate.

By filling the tree and filing cloture on the latest Iraq resolution, he brings the Senate in for a Saturday cloture vote - trying to break the minority by forcing Republicans to vote for cloture or else suffer media spin that they are blocking a vote on Iraq. Nice senator Reid real nice.

If S.B. 1348 is passed it will be done on the planning and political maneuvering of a superior political party, the Democrat Party, but not because the legislation is good for America.

If Republicans are going to stop this clay pigeon from migrating through the Senate they will have to overcome incompetent Republican leadership, disregard the lame duck in the White house and the Harry Reid controlled Senate to do the right thing for America.

The only question is, are Republicans good enough politicians to get the job done. Truth is they haven’t been for quite a while.

A Tale of Two American Presidents

President Nancy Pelosi and Vice President Harry Reid of the Blue States of America

Ms. Pelosi rammed legislation through the House of Representatives that would strip Mr. Bush of his authority as commander in chief to manage troop movements in Iraq. Now she is attempting to introduce a new Middle East policy that directly conflicts with that of the president. …Ms. Pelosi's attempt to establish a shadow presidency is not only counterproductive, it is foolish.—Washingtonpost.com

Are Democrats acting as if the 2006 mid-term elections which put both houses of Congress in their hands is a political coup? It sure appears like it. Especially when Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announces that there’s a new Congress in town. She only stopped just short of taking on a Texas twang and declaring that this town ain’t big enough for the both of us President Bush. Guess Pelosi is leaving all the southern twanging to Hillary.

Then Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid up and declares that the war in Iraq is lost. Which was news to our troops in the middle of fire fights in Iraq. I can see the men now; between M-16 rounds, Hey John did you hear Senator Reid just announced that the war is lost. John answers back, Yeah I just show him on Al Jazzera TV in that last house we just checked.

To top it off Senator Reid had the audacity to call the sitting President delusional about the war in Iraq. Wait a minute you call a war lost which was handily won and you do this with fighting men in the field and you’re calling the President delusional? …Yeah right!

Speaking of delusion the Democrats challenge to President Bush’s legitimate constitutional war authority makes them a government unto themselves.
The last I looked this was a Democratic Constitutional Republic. One which the people elect a President and she or he leads the nation with support from a cabinet of congressional approved administrators meant to conducts the affairs of state.

However there as been phenomena developing in this country as late as the 2000 presidential elections which is made more distinct by a closely divided House of Representatives and a closely divided Congress, that phenomena has been Democrats acting as if their political defeats entitled them to half of the political power in America.

Democrat behavior has been unprecedented in the way that they have demand equal time with the President of the United States so much so that they have created a dual leadership situation that has only been seen in America once before.

This situation is even more apparent now that Democrats control both the Congress and the House of Representatives. Democrats more than ever are acting as if they share a co- Presidency with President George Bush.

The Speaker of the House who is third in succession to the Presidency has demanded a larger Government Jet to jet her to and from her home in San Francisco and Washington D.C., a kind of Air Force plus 1.

If you haven’t noticed we are now functioning as two governments one controlled by President Nancy Pelosi the first woman President of the United States and her Vice President Senator Harry Reid. And the second legitimate government of President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Not since President Jefferson Davis of the Confederate States of America challenged President Abraham Lincoln has the United States had two Presidents simultaneously.

Democrats have effectively split the Government of the United States of America and now acting as Democrat President Nancy Pelosi along with her Vice President Harry Reid are governing a shadow government as an anti-Bush government alternative.

President Pelosi has made her first official diplomatic trip to Syria signaling that there is a new foreign policy in the United States and is planning her next trip to Iran.

Her Vice President Harry Reid has declared that he represents the people of the United States and the elected President, President Bush doesn’t. And to prove his point Democrats have decided to send President Bush legislation that will micro manage the war and then set a date to cut and run, establishing a dual Commander-in-Chief situation, between President Bush and the Democratic controlled Congress. Yeah that’s what the people want!

So how does a Democrat governed government fight a war? First declare that the war is lost and when the President of the United States ask for war funding you send him a bill that includes domestic spending, $6.9 billion for recovery along the Gulf Coast and allocates $650 million for children's health care, among other tertiary spending measures, why focus on winning the war?

And then be sure to set dates that your enemy can measure your limits. How long will Americans fight for freedom? Oh about four years and then please no more! Then maybe we can negotiate how much freedom we’re willing to give up to keep the peace. Cindy Sheehan could do that job; Sheehan would make one good ambassador for negotiating away our freedoms for peace.

As additional acts of Democrats inappropriate power grabbing become more and more apparent it should become clear to all Americans that Democrats are acting unconstitutionally.

The last time a shadow government was set up it the United States of America we fought a war over it and President Jefferson Davis was arrested.

That’s something to think about isn’t it President Pelosi?
