More Than Black

Sen. Barack Obama

Rarely does America have the opportunity to speak so openly and directly about the issue that has defined our Nation’s conflicted social struggle regarding race as we heard when Sen. Barack Obama rose to the occasion yesterday in the city of brotherly love and spoke to calm our fears.

Before now we as a nation have taken the coward’s way out by speaking about race in coded words or by mocking the subject in our media with shows like “All in the Family” or hatin’ on one another through our music in lyric and rhyme that uses pulsating beats by which to spew out racial hatred.

Barack Obama took on the challenge of over 200 years of American racial dysfunction that was foisted on him by situations totally out of his control. And Obama took on that challenge and met it with intelligence, wisdom and grace the likes that have not been seen since the 16th President of these United States was forced to deal with some of the same forces that threatened to divide this country.

For those who used Rev. Wright’s words to attack Sen. Obama while justifying their own racial fears Sen. Obama’s speech did not satisfy their need to hate him, but then again nothing will.

For those who support Sen. Obama this was a bright and shining moment that reinforced why you support him. For he indeed proved that he has the mettle to be President of the United States of America.

David Corn political commentator reviews Sen. Obama speech with a clarity and objectivity that demonstrates that one doesn’t have to be jaded to cover a human dynamic that is usually used to manipulate people as politics often does.

However I am sure the David Corn would agree with me that what we heard in Sen. Obama speech was not manipulation. No it was far from it, what we heard was a man, an American man who took on the issue of race that had heretofore been used against him repeatedly by opponents and media alike but somehow he transcended it for the good of the country and became more than black.

And with a calm and confidence that is unmatched in any other candidate that he is running against Sen. Obama assured this nation that our racial problems are more than just black our problems are economic and education and health care, etc.

Sen. Obama showed us that our problems are ones that we all face in common and they are problems that we will not defeat separated by traditional racial divides.

Though I will not vote for Barack Obama because of his Liberal politics and I believe those politics would lead this country in the wrong direction, I can say unequivocally that Barack Obama is where he is not because he is Black Ms. Ferraro, but on the contrary he is challenging for the Presidency of the United States of America because he is more than Black.

And in addition he has reminded America that her problems are more than about Race, America’s problems are about people all of the people that make up this great nation.

Loving, helping, lifting up people, that is why Barack Obama is where he is today and that is what the country has bought into Ms. Ferraro and you Conservatives that are hatin’ on Obama for somebody else’s words.

Listen to Sen. Obama’s own words you may not support him (As I do not support him) but do not project your own racial bigotry and hate on him. That is something that you will have to work out between you and your higher power.

    No Dice Al!

While, I am surprised by your recent lurch towards Liberalism, I listened intently to Obama's Speech and watched his body language. He appeared stilted, ill-at-ease, and with the sly look of a cat sleeping on canary feathers.

Parsing his words only compounds the problem. Many a German has disowned Adolf Hitler, as many a Russian has disowned Joseph Stalin, and many a Chinese has disowned Mao Zedong. How many Blacks, especially Ugandans, are willing to disown Idi Amin Dada? Sts. Nicholas and Athanasius had no problem with diowning Bishop Arius.

I took Obama to task over only the word "disown". The sppech was of several thousand words, and I simly do not have time take him to task for every one of them.

Actually, I am happy with this speech because it was a miserable flop. It means that Hillary will win Pennsylvania. Bill is pushing for 50% reinstatement of the Florida and Michigan delegates [citing that the GOP did it that way], which should close Hillary's Delegate Gap. The Superdelegates will almost have to do this in order to keep Florida and Michigan in play for November. THE DEMOCRAT CONVENTION SHOULD BECOME EXTREMELY CLOSE!!!

Let's put it this way, never since 1924 will a Democratic Convention become so entertaining for Conservatives. The Democratic Convention of 2008 is slated for one Ballot and 4 Days. In 1924, it took two weeks and 103 Ballots. Even now, Calvin Coolidge smirks from his grave.

I'm dissapointed to see your sudden attack of Liberalism. I hope you get well soon.

  2. MD,
You don't agree, I'm not surprised. However, I'm used to Liberal's making closed minded assumptions regarding analysis.

I've dealt with Liberals for years on various boards I know the illogical and undisciplined arguments that they employ, these usually are followed by ad hominem attacks as in your case.

So I know when a person can not distinguish between a stance on principle as I have presented and an ideological change in position.

Your comparison of Sen. Obama with the human evil that attempted to enslave the world is unfortunately unsophisticated and amazingly puerile yet I have come to expect this from you too.

For you to labor under the delusion that you have the ability to take anyone to “task” on a word a sentence, or a paragraph is as hilarious as Al Gore swearing to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help him Mother Nature!

As for your own analysis I’ve seen too much of it come to naught so don’t be too offended if I don’t hold my breathe waiting for your midsummer night dreams to manifest.

    Yet I remain your friend,
    Al

I don't think I attacked you here. I noted that you took the Liberal side of the discussion and no more.

I critiqued Obama's Speech, weighed him in the balance, and found him wanting.

The bulk of my displeasure is for Reverend Wright's Apostacy, the failure of Obama to walk out on him, and the United Church of Christ's failure to excommunicate him. I showed you how it would be done on the spot in my circle. Note also that most of my argument was theological.

Also, the sooner you disown a Tyrant, the better. Were it not for Julius Streicher throwing in with Hitler during the early days of Naziism, there would be no Nazi Germany. Streicher instead chose to merge his party with Hitler's and the rest is History. Streicher went along and the World paid.

Again, reread my rant and you will see why I am pleased with the result. I'm sorry that you want to DISOWN me. If I have to go, I'll go. I am probably going to move to the Nicene Truth blog, and if you want to look me up after you cool off, I'll probably be there.

  4. MD,
My displeasure is with your assumption that I have changed political positions or that I am changing because I speak to a principle that I believe should be honored by all.

I'm not going to attempt to impose my will on another man's religious views or on his religious practices or on his religious associations. I believe that I am well within the Constitution on this.

If you get a change to read Dick Morris' column today it will at least give you some perspective on why Obama's fellowship is at Rev. Wright's church though it is none of our business.

If my defense of myself was too harsh and offended you I apologize.

I don't believe that it is fair to compare Rev. Wright or Sen. Obama with historical megalomaniacs.

Neither do I suffer unsupported allegations in any regard.

I am not angry with you however I do believe that a stern rebuke was necessary to bring the conversation back to reason if that is at all possible.

As I said I remain your,
    Friend

    Al:

I forgive you. I understand that you think that I went too far by comparing Wright to Hitler. However, that is how it all starts.

I have to put the question to you: What would you do if your Preacher/Priest/Reader/Matuska/Rabbi/etc. spouted such garbage?

If someone proves himself unfit for his Pastoral post, as Wright certainly did, he should be removed.

As a check on your understanding of my ire, here is my ranking of the culprits with respect to the culpability of this situation:

    1) Rev. Jeremiah Wright - 100%
    2) The United Church of Christ -98%
    3) Barack Obama -75%
    4) Geraldine Ferrara - 5%
    5) Hillary Clinton - 1%

Note that Obama is in the Middle of my Excrement List, not the top of it.

Can you honestly call Jeremiah Wright a Christain? I can't! You celebrated Palm Sunday which heralds the last week of Lent while I celebrated the Sunday of Orthodoxy which starts the first week of Lent. This particular service involves the reading of Anathemas against the opponents of the Seven Church Councils. In particular, the Iconoclasts were Anathematized for creating divisions, conflict, and dissensions within the Christain Church, much as what Jeremiah Wright did.

In Closing, answer me this: just how do you handle threats to your Salvation such as an Apostate Preacher like Jeremiah Wright?

    Bill O'Reilly walked out.

I looked at Dick Morris'es secular argument. Morris clearly does not understand Religion. Believe me, if I didn't want to go to church and if I did not substantially agree with my Priest, I'd be out looking for the nearest acceptable Methodist Minister or Orthodox Priest with a 100 mile handicap over the Methodist Minister.

I'm going to let your rebuke pass based upon previous good faith.

    Al:

I think that I'll be happier at Nicene Truth, which is where I plan to be doing most of my posting from now on. Visit us from time to time. I'll be making an occasional visit to you blog, so I won't desert you totally (unless you state that you deem it stalking).

If the Denver Death Match, aka, my Midsummer Night's Dream, takes place, I'll change my name to Theseus and you can change your name to Hippolyta.
